FSC Vision

Family Success Centers (FSC) are neighborhood gathering places where any community resident can go for support, information and services. The FSC approach is collaborative. It includes local residents, families and people from different walk of life who can use their strengths/skills to problem solving. The design and delivery of FSCs affirm and strengthen cultural identity and diversity; staff of the FSC represents the culture, ethnicity, and makeup of the community they serve. At Village Family Success Center, we have a huge Haitian and Hispanic populations. The FSC staffs speak French, Creole, English and Spanish. Jefferson Park Ministries, Inc. is the lead agency that oversees Village Family Success Center in partnership with United Way of Greater Union County.

Our Mission

With community being defined as any environment where people live, work, or learn, the goal and mission of Village Family Success Center is to prevent child abuse and neglect, teach the skills that parents and children may need to achieve success in their daily lives and empower the families in order for them to become self-sufficient. The center is committed to serve all Union County’s individuals and families by providing comprehensive services focusing on self-empowerment, compassion and self-determination. Village Family Success Center follows the principles of Family Support Practice to ensure that all individuals and families are treated with respect while we are helping them achieve their own goals.

Access to Health

Families are screened every Thursday and eligible families sign up for NJ Family Care at the center through a partnership with Well-Care. The Center provides information relating to other child, maternal and family health issues with specific collaboration with Maternal and Child Health and Children’s Specialized Hospital.

Advocacy

As a community based program, the FSC is in constant need of up to date information on services and programs available in the community to connect families in time of hardship. In addition to information and referrals, the center has to embrace the empowerment approach to help families advocate on their own behalf.

Skills based Programs

The focus of Village Family Success Center has been around social skills building through educational workshops and support group activities to provide social learning experience to individuals and families. Our life skills groups aim to strengthen social connections, parental resilience and emotional competence.

Parents Leadership

The village family success center is based on the shared leadership principle to make sure that families become a part of the center by providing feedback, inputs on the best approach to work with the community. The Village has an active Parents Advisory Board (PAB) that meets once a month to help the staff get a better understanding about the community…

Village Family Success Center implements training programs and evidence based strategies, practices and programs that are outcome based and empower all segments of a community to be actively engaged in changing their environment.

Village Family Success Center is a community based center funded through funds provided by The Department of Children and Families to provide wrap-around resources and supports for families before they find themselves in crisis. Family Success Centers offer primary child abuse prevention services to families and bring together concerned community residents, leaders, and community agencies to address the problems that threaten the safety and stability of families and the community. There is no cost to access services provided by Family Success Centers (FSCs).

Village Family Success Center’s purpose is to enrich the lives of children and adults by making families and neighborhoods stronger by implementing programs and services that aim to empower all segments of the community. The Village family success is a trademark of the Jefferson Park Ministries, a well- known agency that has been created in 2002 by the late Catherine R. Saintilien to serve the immigrants community. Our family success Family Success Center is among the first wage of centers that were implemented by the State in 2008 to strengthen families and to promote child welfare in the community. The center has its own identity and operates accordingly to the family support principles.

Village Family Success Center serves many individuals with limited language proficiency, live at or below the poverty level, are marginally employed, unemployed or at risk of unemployment. Village Family Success Center services are universally available to the entire community. Recruiting and engaging new families is not an issue – The center is known throughout the area by word of mouth, by radio, newspaper and community prominence. All of the core services are delivered through the FSC – either directly, or by referrals to service providers.
